Barilla America Inc. is joining with Jacobson Warehouse Co. Inc. to open a $96.2 million manufacturing and distribution facility in Lvingston County.
The plant will be located at Routes 5 and 20 in Avon, about 50 miles east of Buffalo. It will serve as the hub for Barilla’s northeastern U.S. operation, which the company said accounts for more than half its business.
Barilla will invest $87.7 million on the project, with Jacobson contributing $8.5 million.
Two buildings will be constructed on a 49-acre parcel — a 200,000-square-foot warehouse and a 100,000-square-foot manufacturing plant. The site is in a designated Empire Zone, making it eligible for economic incentives from New York state.
Groundbreaking is planned for June, with production to begin in June 2007. Total employment is expected to reach 120 workers within three years.
Barilla America, based in Illinois, is part of Barilla Group of Parma, Italy.
Jacobson Cos., which began in 1968 in Iowa, is a national third-party warehousing, packaging and logistics provider.
